Obedience Before the Outcome

Easter Series Week 1 of 4
As Easter approaches, our attention naturally turns toward the cross and the empty tomb. But before the cross, there was a garden.
In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus faced the weight of what was coming. Scripture tells us He prayed, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will” (Matthew 26:39).
That moment was not about visibility. It was about obedience.
Before the crowds.
Before the trial.
Before the cross.
There was surrender.
Leadership often begins the same way.
Many leaders want clarity before obedience. We want to understand the outcome before we take the step. But throughout Scripture, God often calls His people to obedience before the full picture is revealed.
Jesus knew the cost. Yet in that quiet garden, before anyone else saw what was unfolding, He chose obedience to the Father’s will.
That moment reminds us that faithful leadership often happens in private first.
~ It happens in prayer before action.
~ In surrender before success.
~ In trust before understanding.
The public moments of leadership are often shaped by private moments of obedience.
For those who serve behind the scenes, this is deeply encouraging. The world celebrates outcomes, but God honors obedience. The quiet decisions to follow Him, trust Him, and submit to His will matter more than any visible platform.
Before the resurrection victory came the obedience of the garden.
And that same pattern often shapes the lives of those who lead faithfully today.
Reflection Question
Where might God be asking for my obedience before I see the outcome?
